History demonstrates that achieving widespread change often necessitates modifying the environment, not the individual. Social, economic and political factors have dramatically impacted both businesses and individuals in many ways over recent years. Advances in education, science and technology, mass transit systems, and the workplace have improved our ability to communicate, travel and be productive at work. They also have led to greater employment opportunities for people with disabilities. However, much work remains to be done.
The ePolicyWorks Health Care collaborative workspace is an online, limited-access forum where federal partners and other national policymakers can share information and ideas on how to reduce health care-related disincentives to employment and increase access to health care and mental health services and supports for people with disabilities. The workspace provides a framework for engaging ePolicyWorks Health Care stakeholders from a variety of vantage points and helps them work together to share and disseminate information in a coordinated manner.
Core features of this workspace are the Resource Library and Legislative Corner—repositories of articles, publications, legislation and other resources addressing the intersection among health care, disability and employment. Another key feature is the eWorkgroups function, which enables users to create their own online workplaces to collaborate on projects, share information, facilitate online discussions and more.
Membership to ePolicyWorks Health Care is open to federal agency representatives and other policymakers from organizations involved in the development and support of national policies that examine the intersection among health care, disability and employment, and promote an increase in employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
